creating a blog about technology

Since 2002, I’ve been writing a blog at mjtsai.com (supplemented by Mastodon/Twitter) about macOS, iOS, and other topics of interest to technology users and developers. I provide curated links and independent analysis that you won’t find anywhere else, based on a background of using Apple products since the Apple II and the Mac 128K. People have told me that they don’t have time to follow everything on social media and RSS, and so they just check my blog each day to find the good stuff. I don’t seek direct advertisements, so the pages load quickly and don’t annoy you. There’s just a single, tasteful ad from the Carbon network. I try to focus on creating a useful resource rather than a vehicle for ads or page views. For example, I frequently update old posts when the new information is more useful in context, rather than making a large number of short posts that each tells only part of the story. I give my own perspective on issues, but I also think it’s important to document the sentiments of the Apple community. There are lots of smart people who look at things from different angles, and I try to present each “side” in its best light. As time goes by, it’s interesting to look back on these debates and to keep ourselves honest about what we actually thought at the time. Unfortunately, many of the companies and blogs that I wrote about in the early years are no longer around or no longer being updated. I don’t want that to happen to this blog. I intend to keep the site running and to continue posting regularly. However, the blog is not my main job, and yet it takes a substantial amount of time to produce. I’m creating this Patreon so that readers who find what I’m doing valuable can support my spending time on this. Thank you for reading. Your support is totally optional but very much appreciated. I currently don’t have any special membership benefits to offer, but I’m open to suggestions.
